30 Days of Bread: Easy Doughnuts

Who knew homemade doughnuts could be so easy?  I happened upon this "so easy it's crazy" recipe, while preparing a unit on Hanukkah.  These are not in the healthy category.  Come to think of it, I never worry about health when it comes to doughnuts.

Take any brand of Grands-type biscuits (I used Aldi's brand).
Cut out the middles with a round biscuit cutter (about 1 inch round).

Fill a wok with about a half of an inch of oil or 1/2 cup.
Heat on medium low heat.
To test oil to see if they are hot,  dip one edge of a doughnut in the oil.
If it's ready the dough will begin to bubble.

Cook 1 to 1 1/2 minutes on each side or until brown.

Move to a wire rack or a plate with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Sift powdered sugar on top.

Insert an icing tip into doughnut to fill with your favorite preserves.

Yummy!
