What to say...17 years tomorrow

Tomorrow is my 17th wedding Anniversary. It's hard to believe 17 years. I truly married my best friend and "soul mate", if you will. He has brought out the best parts of me throughout the years, and pushed me beyond what I thought possible for myself. Last year, he bought me a forsythia (which I always pronounce wrong, but anyway). This is a picture of a property in Townsend that I love, just because of their forsythia. Everywhere I look from my downstairs window, I can see a nice brillant yellow bush that reminds me... my anniversary is coming up.

You see my husband and I eloped on March 11, 1994, while we were on Spring Break from our studies at Trevecca. All the pieces fell into place, including blessings from our moms. So we asked a couple of friends who did not travel home for Spring Break to come to our little wedding held at the college church. All three of their pastors took part in the service, my maid of honor and his best man both wore jeans. The three book store ladies and a close friend were our only attendants. We have 6 pictures, his friend took, because JP forgot to put film in his camera (He was really nervous). JP wore his suit and I wore a simple white dress with a single rose bouquet. (Are you wondering when I'm going to get to the forsythia?). My maid of honor was a...for lack of a better word "hippie", she did my hair that day and adorned it with the only thing in bloom in March around Nashville. You guessed it...forsythia.

I will forever link that with one of the happiest days of my life. The day I became joined before God with my husband. I look back at our SIX little snapshots and see the optimism beaming of our future together. We've had lots of rainy days but we've had more sunshine, than I feel we've deserved. Forsythia is my little reminder of the sunshine that I get to take part in everyday that I spend married to this man of mine. Is our life perfect? No...but it's better than we deserve. That's called Grace, and it only comes from above.

So when I'm tempted to whine and complain...I'll remember forsythia, sunshine and Grace and then go kiss my wonderful husband, hug my three little blessings and thank God who has given me "every good and perfect gift".
