Glimpses from our week

We are still studying electricity and will be for about another 3 weeks. This week we've been studying series circuits. We've done some online reading and simulations, drew a diagram of a series circuit, played around with Snap Circuits (a very generous friend has loaned us during our study). Here are some sites we found that the kids just loved:

During lunch which is our main meal of the day, we have tried to establish the habit of sharing something we've read in our devotions or Bible Reading, a struggle or maybe a prayer request. We are also singing a hymn that we are working on memorizing. This week in Bible, the kids have been studying Acts 8-mainly the story of Philip sharing the gospel of Jesus with the Ethiopian eunuch. So during our sharing time, they told their versions of the stories in that chapter using stick puppets that came along with their Bible material. Their version of the baptism was very entertaining with gurgling and bubbling sound effects. We were getting a little worried about the Ethiopian eunuch in Daniel's story.

We studied Pennsylvania earlier in the week and finished the week with New York and New Jersey. I bought these little State Sticker and Passport sets from Rainbow Resource. As we study the state, they put the sticker in their book.

Today, we've read from several books (United States of America and Smart about the Fifty States) I have on the 50 States highlighting New York and New Jersey. We also found this book series from the library that we all love. I bought the book Tennessee Symbols and Facts Projects. I don't recommend buying it because the activities are not all that unique. There were a couple I really like- one we did today. Comparing populations of states using popcorn. We popped our popcorn, looked up the populations in the atlas, counted 1 piece per 100,000 people and compared the results (which one was biggest, smallest, in order least to greatest, why do you think New York has the biggest population). We'll eat the popcorn later for movie night. Tera suggested you could also do this activity with mini-marshmallows or candy. Not as healthy, but I doubt any kid would complain.

I'm glad we're done and the weekend is about to begin. I'm still recovering from a sinus infection. Daniel is getting better from his cold and Tera and Michael are so far well. I'm hoping and praying it stays that way.
