Play doh Mania
Ever since we did experiments with those clay boats, my kids have pulled out the play doh. Well, the only problem was our play doh was all brown. So my kids with all their imagination decided they would play candy makers making chocolates. Talk about taking lemons and making lemonade. After about a week of playing with brown play doh, I bought them new colored stuff just because. I was proud they were content with what they had and never asked for new play doh or complained that it was all brown.
I wish I was more like that...taking what I have and making the best of it instead of always wishing for something better and more brightly colored. Something pretty. Life is not always pretty nor does it come in flashy packages. Life can be real messy and ugly. When I was in high school, there was a sign hanging on the wall in the cafeteria right over the milk cooler. (Lines were really long so since most of my friends brought their lunches, I had plenty of time to read the signs.) Anyway, it said something to the effect: "You are responsible for your response." We cannot control life around us, but we can change our response to our circumstances. Like I quoted a few days ago...
"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength."

I think I need to print this out and hang it up somewhere. Maybe on the bathroom door and the next time there is a long line.....
